Board Office: (973) 616-6040

Welcome!

The Pequannock Township School District, in partnership with the community, is committed to providing appropriate educational opportunities for the development of the intellectual, social, cultural and emotional growth of all students.

The Board of Education, school administration, and staff are dedicated to maintaining a challenging educational program that addresses the individual needs of all students in a positive and safe learning environment. Dynamic curriculum development, upgrades in facilities and technology, and a variety of co- and extra-curricular activities combine to provide for differences in student interests and abilities across a comprehensive K-12 program of studies.

In the fall of 2006, the Pequannock Township Public Schools embarked on a district-wide improvement effort to re-establish the district as one of New Jersey’s premier school systems. The plan’s major improvement initiatives offered a template for the schools of Pequannock to take the lead in the development and cultivation of strong character, curiosity, integrity, leadership, perseverance, and academic performance.

During the 2006-2007 School Year, this effort focused on reallocating time in our elementary schools. More time was spent in the areas of language arts and reading with the implementation of a Lexile program using graded reading materials to help students develop their reading skills. Curriculum renewal efforts in mathematics also prompted more rigorous study in that subject area. The result of these changes was an unprecedented rise in achievement in the elementary schools.

During the 2007-2008 School Year, the focus shifted to improvements at the middle school. A new schedule which featured extended time in English and math, blocked alternate day science and social studies classes and a host of engaging elective choices was implemented in Pequannock Valley School. Daily meetings of our Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) helped the faculty focus on student achievement by using available data to drive instruction. Staff and students met the challenge and student achievement at the middle school also soared.

The High School is our present point of focus. We have implemented PLC meetings in core academics meeting twice per week. During these meetings, teachers discuss topics ranging from curriculum mapping and pacing, to lesson planning for active learning in the sixty-minute class period. Meanwhile, the high school administration is working to develop and implement a new schedule model for the high school which will feature sixty-minute class periods to increase the time spent on instruction. This new schedule will take effect in the fall of 2009.

Thanks to a successful referendum passed by the voters in September 2008, we are also busy planning for construction at the high school and middle school during the summer of 2009. The most notable improvements will be a renovated auditorium and media center at PTHS.

As you can see, the Pequannock Township Public Schools are on the move toward higher student achievement, active learning, greater student participation, and better and safer facilities. We are excited about the future of our schools and the success of our students. Feel free to explore our new web site to find out more about these and other programs in our individual schools. We look forward to your involvement in making our schools second to none in New Jersey!
