Message from the Superintendent
I am both honored and excited to take on the role of Superintendent of Schools. For the past twenty-two years, I have been working in the district’s schools, first as Director of Fine and Performing Arts and Director of Adult Education, and for the past fourteen years as Principal of Pequannock Valley School. During this time, I have gotten to know our schools, the faculty and staff, and the students and parents of our community.
I am confident that our schools can be not only good schools – they can be great schools! By focusing our efforts on active learning, engaging and interesting educational experiences where students learn core essentials in the various disciplines, using technology in an authentic way to support and extend learning, and celebrating student success we can continue to increase student achievement at all levels.
Our elementary schools and our middle school have already experienced dramatic increases in student achievement through various programmatic changes that have raised the academic rigor of instruction and increased the time students spend on task. Our high school is now poised to experience that same kind of success as we prepare to implement a new schedule format that provides more instructional time for core academics. With each and every year, greater numbers of our students are learning more and experiencing greater levels of success.
We also continue to focus on the importance of social and emotional learning in our schools. Building good character and strong values will help our students become good citizens and positive contributors to our society. Service learning also shows our students that they can make a difference in the world by using all they have learned in our classrooms in a connected way to bring about change.
We also strive to promote good decision making by our students. Through a focus on academic integrity and scholarship, a newly developed and comprehensive code of conduct, and one of the most comprehensive and rigorous substance abuse and student drug testing programs in the nation, we seek to prepare our students for long, healthy, and productive lives.
The future of our schools is certainly bright and I invite you to partner with us in providing our students with an education that meets their individual needs, challenges them to do their best work, and encourages them to explore a wide range of interests.
By working together, we can continue to drive our improvement efforts forward in making the Pequannock Township Schools second to none in New Jersey!
