Other Elective Offerings
Grade 8 Enrichment/GT Social Studies:
Enrichment Social Studies (9 week course) gives a small group of students the opportunity to focus on two activities: 1) mock trial and 2) a major research project.
In the mock trial, students learn about select court cases in American history, and are able to simulate a sample case relevant to middle school students. The research project allows students the time and materials to focus on one person or event in more depth then is normally available in the regular course.
Reading about the News (Grade 7):
This nine-week course gives students an opportunity to learn about the news business. Students read and discuss traditional print and web-based sources, and learn to read and write about current events. Sub-themes include distinguishing between fact and opinion, writing for a particular audience, and discerning point-of-view.
Writing about the News (Grade 8):
This nine-week course introduces students to the unique writing styles employed by news writers. Students learn to write succinctly and for a particular audience. They examine various newspapers, news magazines, and media sources, and assemble their own portfolio of news writing. Students are given the opportunity to assemble a news program (radio or television) which demonstrates their understanding of journalistic writing.
GT Science 8th grade
This elective is designed for students who are truly curious about the natural world. Students will be involved in several field trips, advanced hands on lab activities, and analysis of data to create inferences and draw conclusions that will ultimately be used as they participate in a debate regarding environmental issues that occur in New Jersey.
GT Science 7th grade
studies Life science.Students explore topics on cell structure, function, biochemistry, genetics, and Taxonomy. We give a brief overview of viruses, monerans, protists, fungi, and plants, and study the animal kingdom, invertebrates and vertebrates, in great detail. Students learn through hands-on-labs, projects, teacher led discussions and group activities.
In the Third and Fourth Marking Period Enriched Science (G.T.) will be exploring student selected topics of current Scientific and Technological importance, and generating possible solutions to problems arising from these topics.
Creative Dramatics
Students have fun while learning improvisation, theatre games, and performing plays.
