SJG FIFTH GRADE SERVICE CLUB/PEER MEDIATORS

 

The Marines are always telling us that they're looking for a "few good men." The SJG Service Club was looking for a few good members, and there's GREAT NEWS. We found them!

 

The SJG Service Club is dedicated to the idea of helping one's community. As a club, we will decide what projects we would like to do and how these would help not only our school community, but the community of Pequannock Township and those beyond the borders of our township.

 

Besides helping to make a difference in various communities, club members are trained to be peer mediators. Members will use their conflict resolution and peer mediation skills to help SJG students solve conflicts and foster friendships.

 

Since the start of the school year, the members have been hard at work. During Red Ribbon Week, they helped to choreograph and perform a routine to "RESPECT." More recently, they assembled and presented gift bags to our Veterans honored at our Veterans' Day celebration during SJG's third grade concert. The members also served up some sweet treats after the concert. Operation SMILE donations were sorted and prepared by Service Club members. The kindergarten classes and fifth grade chorus members will share the spririt of the holidays in song with our neighbors at Hearle Village. The Service Club members will be responsible for putting together a small gift to be given to the residents. Our township animal shelter is in need of food and supplies. This is a new project that the members will be coordinating in the next few weeks. Throughout the school year, cell phones and eye glasses will be collected for those in need.

 

The members of the SJG Service Club take great pride in being able to make a difference, or to simply lend a helping hand. If there is a need, "they are here to help."
