Music

Congratulations to our Fourth Grade, Kindergarten, and the SJG Chorus who all gave performances during the month of December. This year, once again, the Chorus and Kindergarten also performed at the Alex Hearle Senior Center’s holiday breakfast. The students should be proud of how they shared their love of music with the rest of the school community and their families.

In January, the SJG Recorder Ensemble will begin rehearsals. This is a group of talented fifth graders who play a variety of music on four different sizes of recorders.

The second grade classes are preparing for their Grade Level Program, entitled “Get Up and Grow!” It will be a collection of songs celebrating the many positive aspects of growing up and is scheduled for Thursday, February 18.

The first grade is having fun learning many songs about the winter as well as practicing their instrumental skills on our wide variety of classroom instruments. In fourth grade, we have begun a six week unit on the Instruments of the Orchestra. The fifth grade classes have begun working in cooperative groups to write original poems about winter and then to add instrumental accompaniments.

Third graders have received their recorders and are practicing their note reading skills as well as their recorder technique. They are working hard to produce quiet, pleasing tone.
