Second Grade
New Jersey winters can be long and cold, but our second graders are going to warm up with lots of learning this winter. This season will have us discovering the origins and customs of many of our holidays. We will also learn more about famous Americans like our first and sixteenth presidents and Martin Luther King Jr. and his dream.
In math, we will be adding and subtracting double and triple digit numbers with regrouping. We’ll spend lots of time applying problem solving strategies to solve math story problems. Counting bills and coins together and making change are also on the agenda.
Our pencils will be flying as we practice our cursive writing. Our hallways will be displaying our winter poems and creative writing pieces. In addition, we will continue applying reading strategies as we enjoy a variety of good stories and articles. We’ll be comparing and contrasting, sequencing, making inferences, and drawing conclusions. As always, we will be asking I Wonder questions and making connections to what we read.
Believe it or not, we’re still not done. We will also learn more about our community and our community helpers. In science, we will learn all about different forms of energy, which is a good thing because we are always energetic to learn new things!
