Welcome to another school year. I would like to introduce myself. My name is Susan Hoffman and I am the new certified school nurse for SJG. I had been substituting as a school nurse for 9 years and held a certified school nurse position in another district in Morris County last year. I received my Bachelors in Science in Nursing from Stony Brook many years ago and obtained my School Nurse Certification from Seton Hall in Dec. 2009. I live in Montville with my husband of 20 years and my two children, Stephanie, 18, who just started college and Matthew, 15, who is a sophomore in High School. I worked as a Neonatal ICU nurse for 13 years prior to having my children.

The certified school nurse is a professional Registered Nurse with a NJ teaching certificate. My role as a certified school nurse is to be a health services specialist who assists students, families and staff in attaining and maintaining optimal health and health attitudes. Because health and intellectual development of children are inextricably related, the school nurse strengthens this process by identifying and assisting in the removal or modification of health-related barriers to the learning process. The certified school nurse with a NJ teaching certificate also teaches health classes.
