PTHS Gymnasium Dedication Ceremony

On December 19th, the district will honor the legacy of a true trailblazer, Coach Ruth Kellett, by dedicating Gym B in her name. The event will begin at 6:30 P.M. and celebrate the contributions of one of the first female athletic directors in the state, our girls basketball coach for over 20 years, the first female coach of a boys basketball team in New Jersey, and a contributor on so many more levels.

Administrative Update

We are excited to welcome Mrs. Ann Marie VanSickle to our administrative team as our new Director of Curriculum and Instruction. Her official start date is September 1st, but she has already been hard at work with Dr. Sheridan to ensure the smoothest transition possible. Welcome to our new colleague as we bid a happy retirement to Dr. Sheridan. Also, Mrs. Debbie Iosso will be returning September 1 - October 31 to fill in for Ms. Branco as our Director of Student Services (PreK-5).

Week Ahead

Though it’s still summer vacation, our schools will still be busy with events. PTHS hosts the College Essay Writing Workshop on Tuesday, while PV and PTHS will host orientation sessions for new students on Wednesday. New students will be welcomed to the elementary schools on Thursday, and our football season kicks off Thursday night. After Labor Day weekend, we will welcome our staff back for two days of professional development and then it’s time for the best day on the calendar (other than Thanksgiving): the first day of school.

The opening of a new school year truly is an exciting time, and provides a fresh start that is loaded with opportunities and optimism. At the same time, the transition back can present some challenges and anxious moments as well, and I want to reinforce that we’re here to help one another to make sure our students, their families and our staff have the best experience possible. Whether your kids are heading back to college (just dropped off my youngest yesterday), starting PreK, or at any point in between, I hope you can enjoy the moments as they make those big next steps in life and continue to grow and learn. Have fun and see you soon!

Sincerely, Michael Portas Superintendent of Schools
