Graduation & Student Assessment Information

The Pequannock Township School District uses a wide array of assessments to measure student learning and growth.  Our aim is to integrate authentic assessments throughout our K - 12 programs that are designed for students to apply content and skills in both known and novel approaches. The data from both formative and summative assessments inform the instructional practices in our classrooms while providing the student and families with the information necessary to gauge their child’s progress toward curricular goals and the mastery of New Jersey Student Learning Standards.

In the spring, Pequannock administers the NJSLA to students in grades 3 - 9 in English Language Arts (ELA) and in Mathematics.  Students in grades 5, 8, & 11 will also be assessed in the NJSLA - Science assessment.

Updated Graduation Requirements as of July 5, 2022

"On Tuesday, July 5, 2022, Governor Murphy signed P.L.2022, c.60 (ACS for A-3196/S-2349), which requires the State Board of Education to administer the New Jersey Graduation Proficiency Assessment (NJGPA) as a field test for the class of 2023. This law also prohibits the results of the NJGPA field test (First Pathway), a substitute competency test (Second Pathway), or portfolio appeal (Third Pathway) from being used as a prerequisite for graduation for students expected to graduate in the class of 2023. There is no graduation assessment requirement for any student who is expected to graduate with the class of 2023.The graduation assessment requirements for the classes of 2024 and 2025 remain in place and are available for districts on the Graduation Assessment Requirements webpage."

NJGPA

In accordance with the State statute N.J.S.A. 18A:7C-1 et. seq. the class of 2024 are required to participate in the New Jersey Graduation Proficiency Assessment for English Language Arts (ELA) and in Mathematics, which are aligned for grade 10 ELA, Algebra 1, and Geometry New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS).  Students who complete the NJGPA, but do not achieve a passing score of 725 or greater, will have the opportunity to demonstrate proficiency through another pathway. Additionally, the class of 2024 will be eligible to take the summer administration of the NJGPA. Please call the High School if you choose this option.

NJSLA

All students are expected to participate in the appropriate assessment.  Students and parents should feel confident that, by focusing instruction on the priority ELA, Mathematics, and Science standards, students are prepared for these assessments and should approach them with confidence, not trepidation.

For Students with Disabilities

Under the Individuals with Disability Education Act (IDEA), all students with disabilities must participate in the state and district-wide assessments. The Individualized Education Program (IEP) of the student with disabilities will address whether the student must meet the passing score on the state assessments or demonstrate proficiency through an alternate pathway. Students with disabilities whose IEP specify an alternative way to demonstrate proficiency will continue to follow the graduation assessment requirements set forth in their IEP.  Each student’s IEP mandated testing accommodations will be reflected in the NJSLA testing environment.

For more information about the mandated NJDOE testing, please visit the NJDOE site.
